MU103 Music Theory I 3 credits

This course will include studies in triad structure, inversions, voice leading, phrase structure, harmonic progressions, harmonization techniques, and non-harmonic tones.

Prerequisite:
MU102
Successful completion of a fundamentals proficiency test or consent of instructor.

MU105 Sight-Singing and Ear Training I 1 credit

Study and practice to develop the skill of accurately sight-reading melodies through the solfege system and melodic dictation.

Prerequisite:
MU102
Successful completion of a fundamentals proficiency test.

Offered every fall.

MU104 Music Theory II 3 credits

A continuation of Theory I with emphasis on four-part writing for choral groups.

Prerequisite:
MU103

Offered every spring.

WL102 Introduction to Worship Leadership 2 credits

Introductory survey of worship ministry. Topics include the calling of a worship leader; current leadership and ministry practices; an introduction to worship planning; and survey of biblical and historical foundations of worship, overview of the OCU Worship Leadership program, including typical career opportunities. A field experience component of at least 1 hour per week for twelve weeks is required.

MU106 Sight-Singing and Ear Training II 1 credit

A continuation of MU105.

MU105

Offered every spring.

WL205 Music Literature for Worship 3 credits

A survey of music literature for use in ministry, including music for congregation and church ensembles. Includes a survey of the historical development of congregational song, and music expressions of worship from world cultures. Focuses on sources for acquiring worship resources.

WL301 Junior Worship Project 0 credits

Demonstrated mastery of the program goals and content. Preparation and leadership for a 25- or 50-minute worship event.

Corequisite: Worship Planning Practicum Ensemble Leadership Practicum Worship Leader Internship

TH325 Biblical Foundations of Worship 2 credits

A biblical understanding of who God is, and how He has chosen to relate with people, especially those he has redeemed. The course will focus on implications for worship ministries in the local church.

Worship Leadership Forum

Worship Leadership Forum is required each semester.

Applied Lessons: 3 Credits

Students must complete three (3) credits of applied lessons, which may consist of applied instrument (piano, guitar, etc.) or applied voice.
