Course Load Policy

Most four-year programs can be completed with a course load of 14-16 hours per semester. Qualifying students may take up to 21 hours per semester for faster degree completion, within the guidelines below. Student are encouraged to consult with an academic advisor to decide what their optimal course load should be. 

 

Credits

To Qualify

14-18 credits

  • Any student not on academic warning or probation

19-21 credits

  • 12 or more hours earned at OCU with a 2.7 GPA or higher, or
  • Approval from the student's advisor

First-semester transfer students and freshmen without an OCU GPA must seek approval from their advising office to qualify for a load over 18 credit hours.

Over 21 credits

  • 12 or more hours earned at OCU with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and
  • Approval of the advisor and department chair or dean
